Standard Sewage vs Septic Tank Systems
One of the ways that houses can differ is in how waste water is processed and managed from the home. Some houses run on a standard, city sewage system in which waste water is carried from the home into a larger sewage pipe to be taken to a central water treatment plant.
On the other hand, some homes function on a septic tank system. Septic tanks are located on your own property, below ground. The waste water from your home is transported to that tank where it is processed and cleaned. The actual clean water will leave the tank while the solid waste will need to be pumped out of the tank periodically by a septic tank cleaning service like Southwest Environmental.
Septic tanks are more common in rural areas. However, they can be found in cities and suburbs as well. While septic tank systems require regular maintenance, you have more control over your sewage system than with a municipal system. If the main sewer line of your municipal system gets clogged or backed up or the main line that runs to the municipal water treatment plant is damaged, you will not always be able to control how it is handled or how quickly it is resolved.
The Type of Heating System a House Has
There are numerous types of heating systems that can be used to keep your home warm and comfortable during the winter months. It is important to know what type of heating system a house you are considering has in order to determine if that system is right for you and how much heating your home may cost you.
The most common home heating systems are natural gas, oil, and electric systems. Oil is one of the more expensive heating systems for a home. The liquid oil must be kept on hand to refuel the heating system and can leave a sooty residue around your furnace which may be problematic. You will need to remember to have your heating oil delivered regularly so that you do not lose your heating system function when you need it.
Natural gas, on the other hand, uses gas that is carried into your home through pipes from a municipal gas supply. This means you do not need to worry about keeping fuel on hand nor do you need to concern yourself with any physical residue being left behind from the furnace's operations. Natural gas does run the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, however.
Electric heat runs much like an air conditioning system or other appliances in that they do not require these gas or oil fuels to operate. Air is forced through the system as an electric motor heats the air that enters into your home. Electric systems can be highly energy efficient and reduce the risk of complications like gas leaks or low fuel supplies.

Before I got a great deal on a house that needed some work, it never occurred to me that individuals could rent dumpsters. It did not take me long to find out that many sanitation services would rent units to homeowners.
